Conwy Children and Young People’s Partnership has made the most of the opportunity brought by the 20th anniversary of the UNCRC to raise the profile of children’s rights with professionals, children, and young people in Conwy. We had already done a lot of work in developing the local Children and Young People’s Plan, structured around 7 Core Aims, which are based on the UNCRC, promoting children’s rights, developing a charter for Conwy, and training professionals. We wanted to strengthen this by running a promotion campaign during October and November 2009. The campaign included requesting the CYPP Board and Conwy County Borough Council Cabinet to adopt the UNCRC officially, promoting the UNCRC in youth clubs and youth settings, and with harder to reach groups, and holding events.

Neath Port Talbot had adopted the UNCRC and it is a thread that runs through its Children and Young People Plan. Our participation officeris in post to promote the National Participation Standards to organisations, support and train them to meet the Standards. To date 6 organisation have attained the Standards. Neath Port Talbot CVS is developing a Children’s Rights Unit, which, when established will disseminate information on children’s rights, train organisations and children and young people on Children’s rights and hold organisations to account on implementing children’s rights.
